Al Yasat Private School embraces diverse learners. Our mission to ensure that everyone is included, challenged and successful is one that we take seriously. Al Yasat is an inclusive school serving our diverse and globally mobile community by offering high quality programs for children who learn differently, so that we serve the whole family at one school.
Al Yasat understands the complexity of providing support for students with a range of learning or cognitive disabilities and makes plans with families, starting at the point of admissions, to ensure that the needs of all children are met.
Most students are able to have their needs met within the classroom using differentiated strategies. However, when students require more than differentiated support in the classroom they could receive learning support.
After-school Learning Support
Each term, students partake in extracurricular activities (ECA) that allow them to engage in a variety of learning opportunities, as well as receive extra learning support in a range of subjects. These include English Language Arts, Maths, Science, Arabic and Islamic. Students are given the chance to ask questions and gain better understanding as well as enhance their knowledge of key concepts.
At Al Yasat our SENCo is responsible for identifying and adopting the most effective teaching approaches for students with special educational needs (SEN). The SENCO monitors teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of students with SEN and along with the partnership of teaching staff, identifies and teaches study skills that will help develop students’ ability to work independently.
In addition, our SENCO co-ordinates additional support for students with Special Education Needs and liaises with their parents, teachers and other professionals who are involved with them. The SENCO has responsibility for requesting the involvement of an Educational Psychologist and other external services if needed. The school works in close collaboration with these specialists to offer targeted interventions through therapies and consider these services fundamental within a balanced programme for students who require learning support.
The school counselor helps assist students improve their well-being and works very closely with the SENCO. By listening to students’ concerns, the counselor helps ensure that issues such as bullying, learning difficulties, low self-esteem, poor academic performance and relationship troubles are all addressed and attended to accordingly. In addition, the counselor along with the students’ teachers will evaluate students’ abilities, interests and personalities to help them develop realistic academic and life goals to aid on the path to success.
