SEN Teacher Assistant

Job Description
Typical duties performed include, but are not limited to:
● To compile academic profiles and carry out assessments with SEN students in order to determine the most
appropriate occupational direction, identifying the most relevant training, producing an assessment report
and recommendations and recording this information in the form of an action plan.
● To engage students and parents in development of IEPs.
● To track progress, provide regular progress reports and record this information appropriately to ensure all
outcomes and targets are both visible and claimed.
● To develop effective working relationships with class/subject teachers.
● Assisting in the delivery of individual work programmes for pupils with statements of special educational
needs.
● Actively participating in the children’s learning
● Moving learning forward with individual children, small groups or assisting with whole classes.
● Discussing with, and reporting back, to class teacher the achievements of children and areas requiring
further support.
● Helping to organise and maintain a productive learning environment.
● Working as part of a team to ensure the well-being, behaviour and personal development of pupils
enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.
● Maintaining confidentiality inside and outside the workplace.
● Understanding and applying school policies.

Required Qualifications
● Speak Arabic and English
● A good level of English and Maths
● Knowledge & experience with working with SEN students
● A Childcare qualification would be desirable
● Ability to work as part of a team
● Able to communicate effectively with a range of people
● Excellent listening skills
● Well organised and practical
● Adaptable, flexible and ability to diffuse conflict
● Calm under pressure
● Able to form and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with children and parents
● Able to organise and deliver classroom activities
● Able to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner
● High level of written and spoken English and numeracy skills to enable you to teach and assist through the
primary phase
● Good IT skills

Job Description
• Establishes appropriate instructional goals and related objectives consistent with the curriculum to achieve desired learning results.
• Prepares instructional plans and materials incorporating principles of effective teaching.
• Creates, selects or modify instructional plans and materials to accommodate learner differences, learning styles and challenge students’ high level thinking skills.
• Monitors student understanding and re-teaches as necessary.
• Communicates oral and written information effectively.
• Maintains an evaluation program of student work and participation that regularly monitors their progress in an accurate and up-to-date manner.
• Maintains official grade reports and student performance statistics as prescribed by school policy.
• Includes a variety of techniques for monitoring student progress in his or her evaluation program. This will be evidenced by a combination of some or all of the following: written tests, writing assignments, classroom performance, individual projects, oral reports, daily observations – anecdotal records, individual conferences, common assessments, diagnostic testing, standardized testing, portfolios, etc.
• Assesses whether students have met the articulated learning targets grounded in the school’s Learning Results with an assessment program that is consistent with teaching.
• Analyzes assessment results to refine curriculum and teaching techniques.
• Communicates student progress based on assessment results to parents and students on a regular basis.

• Establishes and maintains a classroom climate conducive to learning.
• Provides clear, detailed plans for substitutes, aides and other professional or paraprofessional staff.
