Mrs. Annie Madden
K-12 Teacher Librarian

Literacy, learning and collaboration sum up what is important to Annie Madden in her role as Teacher Librarian. Annie has been a teacher for over 30 years in varied roles across schools on the East coast of Australia and has found her time in school libraries the most rewarding yet.

Annie initially completed her teacher training at the College of Advanced Education in Armidale and completed her Bachelor of Education very soon after at the Catholic College of Education in Sydney. Other studies have followed in various areas of education but the most beneficial has been further professional development in the area of school libraries. Being a part of two vibrant professional learning communities of Teacher Librarians on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales has meant she has been immersed in current trends and good practice for librarians. Student collaboration, inquiry and reflection upon their learning have transformed Annie’s view on how students learn and take ownership of their own knowledge creation.

Mastering strong literacy skills, and the power this gives individuals, has been demonstrated to Annie through raising her own 4 children as well as the countless students she has had the pleasure of learning alongside of. This knowledge inspires Annie to do all she can to empower our students to achieve great literacy skills and to use these skills to inquire and learn about our amazing world. Encouraging reading for pleasure is one of Annie’s priorities and believes this is the key to achieving well at just about anything. A library should be a welcoming place to all members of a school community and Annie looks forward to meeting you all as together we use the fabulous resources and spaces we have on offer at al Yasat.
